Please see the size guide below and choose the closest size that suits your hearth or stove. Some points to note:
- Measure your hearth's width and depth in cm. Choose a size that will fit around your shape. Each option has a 90cm gate panel and 4 other panels that are interchangeable.
- For the tightest fit, choose an option that can have 2 panels each side that closely matches your hearths depth.Then the sum of the 3 panels across the front ( incl. 90cm gate) that are the closest match to your hearth’s width. Don't forget you may also find your ideal size by choosing a 5 panel + 2 or more extensions.
- Watch out for Stoves that sit out on the hearth or plinth ensuring the gate gives a good distance from the fire. If your stove sites out, choose a bigger size that gives more distance.Be mindful that the gate is not so close to the heat source your little one cant reach through and touch the heat source, and for fires/stoves that get very hot or are used for long periods be sure to give more distance to avoid over-heating. - You can add extensions later if required - 20cm, 28cm, 49cm, 70cm or 90cm. (We don't charge shipping to those who have already purchased a guard and need to extend). The Babasafe Multifit system is totally modular so you can add and re-arrange extensions now or later.
- Please note the brackets each side add an extra 5 cm if required and can be fitted at any angle ( for example at the front or side of the chimney breast)
- Each panel can be adjusted 360° in relation to each other so you can surround your hearth in a variety of shapes including rectangle, hexagonal, circular or square. Just make sure the size you choose can surround your hearth.

What distance should I have the fireguard from the fire?
There are no official regulations on what distance you should have a fireguard from a stove/FIRE in Ireland and many of the stove manufacturers have individual requirements. We recommend considering the distance to the fire carefully. The fireguard should firstly not be so close to the heat source that your child can reach through the bars and touch the fire from any angle. Normally over 40cm is too far for a child up to 24 months of age to reach.
Secondly, as the fireguard is made from metal, you should consider the possibility of the fireguard overheating on every panel both front and sides. Every fire/stove is different and the temperature from house to house can vary depending on the kilowatt of the stove and the strength of the fire as well as the length of time the fireguard is exposed to heat. As a precaution in our user manual, we mention the distance from a stove should be 75cm, and the distance from an open flame fire should be 90cm. However, in many homes, this distance is not required and is not even possible due to space limitations and in some homes, more than 75cm is required!
It is the responsibility of the user to check the guard both initially and regularly to ensure the gate is not getting too hot. We included the over-heat thermometer strip to assist you with this - anything above 40° is considered too hot to touch. If you find your fireguard is over-heating discontinue use immediately and look at extensions from Babasafe to increase the distance.
Some examples:
Example 1 : A rectangle fireplace hearth that is 46 cm deep x 138 cm wide - Choose size M as it can be shaped 49cm each side with the other 3 panels in the middle : 49cm + 28cm + 90cm + 28cm + 49cm. The extra length in the middle will allow you to create a slight angle between segments for extra stability. Please also note the brackets each side can give an additional 5 cm length if needed.
Example 2 : A square shaped hearth that most stoves sit on in Ireland that is 100 cm x 100 cm Choose size XL (B) as it can be shaped with 2 x 90cm panels each side, at an angle 2 x 28 cm panels connected to the 90cm gate panel. This will give a hexagonal style shape around your hearth in this instance - the Babasafe Multifit is ideal for wood burning stoves. Please note the brackets each side can give an additional 5 cm if needed.

Anti-Climb Wall brackets: Designed so that a foothold is not possible to avoid the climbing hazard.The wall brackets on the Multifit are positioned above the skirting towards the top of the gate. The brackets are screw fitted and are sturdy to withstand pulling and impact.
No sharp corners: The Multifit is designed so that there are no sharp edges that could cause an injury to your child should bump into the gate. Furthermore, if positioned correctly and the correct size is purchased the gate will clear your hearth which is one of the most dangerous collision risks in your living room.
NonToxic Paint: As with all Babasafe baby safety products the Multifit is coated with paint that does not have harmful chemicals.
Temperature sensitive heat thermometer: Each gate includes a temperature sensitive heat strip which shows the temperature of the gate in both Celsius and Fahrenheit via a colour changing strip. Every home is different, with different strength heat sources and in particular stoves which can be burning for long periods. We included the thermometer strip to assist you in ensuring that the gate does not start overheating without you noticing.
EN STANDARDS: The Babasafe Multifit Fireguard is independently tested to the very latest European standards (EN standards 1930:2011) as a baby safety barrier. EN Standards are an important set of guidelines specifically developed for various items on sale in Europe to ensure safety and fitness for purpose. There are a number of factors relating to the EN standard for baby safety gates that are important when applied to fireguards such as structural integrity, space between the vertical bars, if the gate is climbable by an infant and whether the wall brackets create a foothold for your child. The Multifit is designed and tested to the latest European standards for baby safety barriers.
Quick release in seconds and fold up flat when not in use: The gate has a baby proof but quick release bracket system operated making it extremely easy to dismantle. Loosen the hinge locks and fold it up neatly for storage under a bed or in a cupboard.
Child Proof Double Locking System: The gate portion of the Multifit, uses a childproof double locking system that secures the gate at top and bottom but is possible for an adult to open with one hand.
Can be extended indefinitely: If after purchasing the Multifit Fireguard you decide you would like to cover a larger area no problem - simply purchase a 28cm, 49cm or 90cm extension.
